About Us

Welcome to Canine Pet Rescue

Canine Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to saving German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) from high-kill shelters across the South. While our primary focus is on GSDs, born out of our founder's deep history with the breed and local Schutzhund clubs, we proudly step up for other breeds in need whenever possible.

Our rescues are nurtured in loving foster homes as well as in our cozy, custom 7-run kennel facility, located on the beautiful horse farm of our founder, Carla Brow

"Like children, dogs need foundational building blocks to give them success and a sense of well-being. Our rehabilitation process instills this within each dog, teaching a mutual respect between canine and human."

Comprehensive Medical & Preventative Care

Every single dog rescued by CPR receives complete vetting and preventative care prior to being placed in an adoptive home. Our standard medical protocol includes:

  • Full updates on Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.
  • Heartworm testing, an intestinal parasite check, and routine health overviews.
  • Continuous flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives.
  • Spay or neuter surgery and microchipping.
  • remium food, clean water, safe shelter, and crucial mental stimulation.

Evaluation, Training & Rehabilitation

We believe a successful adoption starts with deep preparation. We don't just house dogs; we prepare them to be productive, positive members of a family household.

  • Before a dog is ever posted for adoption, they complete a thorough temperament evaluation, an initial overview, and an extended behavioral evaluation.
  • True decompression takes time. Rescues spend a minimum of two weeks (and often much longer) in active rehabilitation while we search for the perfect matching environment.
  • Dogs are immediately started on housebreaking and crate training. They are also taught foundational obedience commands, maximized based on the length of their stay with us.

CPR Adoption Fees

Adoption fees only partially cover the extensive costs of veterinary care, rehabilitation, and daily maintenance required to run our rescue. Our standard adoption fees range from $250 to $500, which go directly toward vital vetting and care costs.

(??? At any given time, we manage an active rehabilitation capacity of 10 to 20 dogs undergoing training and care. To help these incoming rescues with the decompression process, several permanent resident sanctuary dogs live on-site full-time, serving as steady companions who help new arrivals feel safe, comfortable, and mentored. ???)
